Old Updates

2/14/07 - What's the best Valentine's Day treat an Elliott fan could ask for? How about the offical announcement of Kill Rock Stars'
release of a double-disc full of Elliott's music. The complilation is called "New Moon" and will be released on May 8, '07.
It will contain 24 songs from the time period that he worked with Kill Rock Stars. Please check out Sweet Adeline for more info
and the tracklisting. As this site only shares songs that are not commercially available, this site has
been happy to help out Kill Rock Stars by removing songs that will be available on "New Moon". Even if you've heard some of the
tracks from "New Moon" before, they'll be much better quality than any mp3, so this release is a very exciting thing.

10/1/06 - Welcome to any new fans that have discovered the site because of Pitchfork or Rolling Stone.

Added a higher quality version of "Dancing on the Highway" (128kbps instead of 48kbps) to the Misc Song section.

The four recently leaked songs, "True Love", "Talking to Mary", "Let's Turn the Record Over", and
"From a Poison Well" can be found on the Basement Era Demos section.

9/20/06: Added a version of True Love with a more finalized vocal take. Thanks to Christopher O'Riley for sharing.
Please check out his music, including the great Elliott tribute Home to Oblivion.

9/14/06 - Added four previously unleaked studio demos!!! "True Love", "Talking to Mary", "Let's Turn the Record Over", and
"From a Poison Well" have been added to the Basement Era Demos section.
Please enjoy these amazing songs and thanks so much to the fan who shared these with all of us!

6/22/06 - Added a studio recording of "Dancing on the Highway". As there's some debate over when this song was recorded,
possibly during the Figure 8 era or more recently with the Basement sessions,
the song has been added to the Misc Songs section.
It is a low bit-rate recording, so please contact us if you have a better quality version.

5/5/06 - Updated a song title in the Confusion mix and the Basement II demos. Info provided to this site indicates that
Elliott was using the name "Sons into Daughters" for the song that had previously been known as "Riot Coming".

4/5/06 - Updated a couple song titles on the Confusion mix, Basement II demos, & Jackpot demos pages. While some song titles are
best guesses by fans, more recent info indicated that Elliott had named the fan favorite "Amanda Cecilia" as "Cecilia/Amanda".
Also, a recording labeled by Jr. High, a band which opened for Elliott, had the song "Doin' Okay, Pretty Good" (named by fans)
as "My New Freedom". These titles have been updated on the site. Thanks to the always helpful Patrick C. (aka "TheKeenGuy") for the info.

4/2/06 - 1: Replaced the Figure 8 demos page with the Place Pigalle demos. The Place Pigalle demos include 22 songs, many of which
were finalized for Figure 8, but there are also a bunch of unreleased tracks in the set.
Check out the Place Pigalle Demos page for more info.

2: This website has gotten a little bit of press in the last few months. Added a press section, including the
mention in the current issue of Magnet with Jason Lytle of Grandaddy on the cover.

1/2/06 - Happy New Year! Added a demo version of "Twilight" (with less reverb & no crickets) to the Basement Era Demos page.

Also, check out the new banner for "Rose Parade: A Tribute Video & Fan Documentary for Elliott Smith".
Please click the banner to check out details of the DVD, which is available for purchase. Profits will benefit the Elliott Smith Memorial Fund,
so thanks to Karla for her hard work and generosity.

12/20/05 - Happy Holidays!!! The past few months have been very kind to the fans, and today is another great day for us.
Three songs have been added to the Basement Era Demos page: An alternate version of "Stickman", "Everything's Okay",
and an instrumental track. So far, they've only been leaked at a low bit-rate (64 kbps), but they're still amazing!

12/11/05 - Added a studio demo of "Stickman" that was recorded during the "From a Basement on the Hill sessions.
Click Here or check out the Basement Era Demos link (Thanks to Dan for the info).

11/19/05 - Added a link under "In-Print Compliations" to the Lookout! Records website, where the "Slice of Lemon"
compliation can be purchased. It features the great song "Big Decision".

11/10/05 - Fritz Michaud, who recorded some of the songs from "From a Basement on the Hill", provided this website with
some corrections on what titles Elliott was using for a few of the songs from the "Basement II" leak. "See My City Dead" is actually "Fear City",
"The Worst Part is Almost Over" is just called "Almost Over", & the "Another Standard Folk Song" is "Crazy Fucker".
Check out the "Basement II" Demos link. Big thanks to Fritz for wanting the fans to have the correct titles.

11/8/05 - Added three instrumentals recorded during the "From a Basement on the Hill" sessions. Click Here or
check out the Basement Era Demos link.

10/27/05 - 1: Uploaded a much better version of "No Confidence Man", listed under the Out-of-Print singles below.
The previous version was recorded at a too fast speed. This version is how the song should sound (Thanks to Micky for the file).

2: In the "Basement II" demos, track #11's correct title is "Whatever (Some Folk Song in C)", not "Whatever (Standard Folk Song in C)" as was
incorrectly listed before on this website. The correction has been made in the large zip file available below
(Thanks to Patrick C. for the catch).

3: To control bandwidth and to prevent streaming, files on this site will now be made available only as zip files. Sorry for the
inconvience of needing to unzip each file, but I'd like this website to stay around for a long time. Thanks for the support!

10/15/05 - 1: Added the new demos leak that has been called the "Basement II" demos. While many of these songs were most likely
recorded before the "Basement" era, the leak includes a variety of unreleased songs (& one live song "Another Standard Folk Song").
The key songs to download are "Abused" (with lyrics), Riot Coming, High Times, New Disaster, The Worst Part is Almost Over,
& Untitled (being called "Sticks & Stones" by the fans). These were previously unavailable and were most likely some of
later songs that Elliott worked on. Some of the songs sound like the same versions seen from the Either/Or Demos, but
others are better sounding (especially "Going Nowhere").

2: Corrected the date tag on one song from the "Confusion" mix. The song "Confusion" comes from the La Zona Rosa show on 5-6-00.

09/30/05 - A better version of "Have You Seen Her" has replaced the existing version in the new Confusion mix.

09/27/05 - I must apologize again for the lack of updates. I spent much of the last year travelling and did not have
time/access to update. Now that I'm home, I plan to update more frequently (that is, if anything new related to Elliott appears).

1 - Added the brand-spanking-new! Version 2 of the Confusion mix. "TheKeenGuy" (also one of the owners of the great music website
Cut the Chord) has cleaned up many of the songs, corrected some song titles,
as well as added another song "Have You Seen Her". Huge thanks for all his hard work!

2 - Related to the updated song titles in the Confusion Mix - Fritz Michaud, who recorded some of the songs from "From a Basement
on the Hill", provided this website with Elliott's song titles for some of the live unreleased songs that have been floating around
the internet.
Mistaken Fan Title -> Elliott's Title
Come Out Now -> Unlucky Charm
Hanging Out With Me -> Whatever (Some Folk Song in C)
True Love -> True Love is a Rose
So Many People -> Confidence Artist
Living in a Cage -> Confusion
Come to Me -> You Make It Seem Like Nothing

3 - Three Elliott songs appear on the soundtrack for the new movie "Thumbsucker". The soundtrack includes "Let's Get Lost"
(from "From a Basement on the Hill"), "Thirteen" (the Big Star cover, which is the same version available below from Jem Cohen's
short film "Lucky 3"), and "Trouble" (a Cat Stevens cover, which is believed to be one of Elliott's very last recordings).
A link is provided for those who wish to purchase the soundtrack.

4 - Under "Misc Songs", a demo version of Elliott's cover of "Trouble" has been added. To get the final version, please
purchase the "Thumbsucker" soundtrack.

5 - Updated the Air Check Cassette's version of "See You Later" with a better quality file. Thanks to Micky for the file!

6 - Added a link to JunkBondTrader.net, a great resource for live Elliott.

02/19/05 - Sorry for the lack of recent updates, but thanks to everyone who have let me know how much they enjoy the site.
The first updates of 2005:
1 - Added a 2nd Disc of Either/Or Era Demos. As always, thanks to Charlie at Sweet Adeline for always giving to the fans.
2 - Added the instrumental version of "Baby Britain" that plays over the opening credits of the short film "Lucky 3". Check out
the "Lucky 3" page.
3 - Thanks to Rob Jones over at Jealous Butcher records for pointing out that the version of "See You Later" listed
under "Figure 8 Era Demos" was actually recorder earlier and was included on his "Air Check Cassette" compliation.
Please check out the new "Air Check" page listed under "Out of Print Compliations" (Thanks also to Fred D. for this correction).
4 - Added a link to the amazing Elliott Smith Gallery, a beautful website of Elliott photos.
5 - The Speed Trials 7" single is now available on iTunes. This single includes the great b-side "I Don't Think I'm Ever
Gonna Figure It Out". Click here to check it out.

11/20/04 - Updated information on the Jackpot Studio Demos page, due to feedback given by the owner of Jackpot! Recording
Studio owner himself, Larry Crane. As a big fan of his recording work, I'd like to thank Larry for all his great contributions to the music world.
Check out the Jackpot Studio Demos page for some very cool info on the songs.
Larry is also the editor of Tape Op magazine, so check out the link to purchase the Tape Op CD compliation, which features Elliott.

11/18/04 - (1) Added two demos: "Either/Or" (a song similar to "No More"
with different lyrics) & "Taking a Fall" (a different song than "How to Take a Fall"). These are truly amazing songs.
"Either/Or" is under the Either/Or Era Demos page, while "Taking a Fall" is under the Jackpot Studio Demos page.
(2) Added an amplified version of the Figure 8 Era demo "No Life". The song is easier to hear now.
(3) Fixed a few typos (Thanks to David for helping me improve the site).

10/09/04 - Added "Confusion: Live Unreleased Songs", a collection of songs that are only available as live recordings.
This collection was put together by the famous "TheKeenGuy" on the SweetAdeline message board & in the "SWEETADDIE" Soulseek
chatroom. A big thanks for all his hard work!

9/26/04 - (1) A small redesign. Due to some expressed concerns, I have removed any file that is only on a currently
available compliation/single. Please look for links to where you can purchase these discs.
(2) Added a better quality version of No-Confidence Man (under Out of Print Singles) (Thanks to Mike W & Alex B)
(3) Added Elliott's version of Bob Marley's "Concrete Jungle" (under Misc Songs)
(4) Added Jackpot Studios Demos (believed to have been recorded before the final sessions for "XO")
(5) Added Either/Or Demos. Thanks to Charlie & SweetAdeline.net for sharing these.
